ST explains the Malaysian GE

I have been trying to bone up on Malaysian affairs and I am disappointed at he low standards some senior people have set for themselves. May be they are operating under hidden constraints, but I am not willing to speculate.

Looks like ST managing editor Han Fook Kwang who regularly writes thoughtful articles missed the plot on the Malaysian elections. Why is he dwelling on the 50 year old wall paper and ignore the elephant in the room? Race will always be an issue across the Causeway. Despite our strenuous efforts to race equality, it has and will never cease to be an issue on our side too. Is he writing for the eyes of the government? Clear as day something else is far bigger than the Chinese Tsunami. Replace Chinese with Malaysian in Tsunami and think of the urban-rural divide instead of race. Corruption and cronyism are big issues. Mahathir was only using race as the bogeyman because he is very good at that. A lifetime of practice.

Derwin Pereira is the most insightful because he competently leads us into the key challenges for Malaysia's social and political future.

I like the way Carolyn Hong rolls her words at the beginning.

A week ago, Karina Bahrin cast her vote in Malaysia's general election and backed the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

Two days later, she wrote about her choice in a Facebook note that has since been shared by thousands, as she criticised Prime Minister Najib Razak for attributing his Barisan Nasional's losses to a "Chinese tsunami".

After identifying herself as a Malay, she said: "If you are going to blame the Chinese for your losses, please blame me too. And the rest of the Malaysians who did the same. We ALL did it."

I am happy you are not forced to take your boss' line.
