The straw that broke the camel's back. I have decided to put this up to remember as the latest in a long series of dumb things that go on in our schools.
The girl is better read thanks to NLB.
Sounds like she got killed by Chemistry this time, but not something we can't quickly fix. I always had a hard time keeping them motivated when they have unsuitable - my euphemism for, bad teachers.
With much effort her sister could work independently of her teachers. Now I had to toil over the younger one :-( No incentive to improve when there is a huge and vibrant private tuition industry right? Practically all her classmates except the foreign scholars get that help.
I must not tar all teachers with the same brush. Both girls had the fortune of being taught by a teacher which I supported aggressively and helped received the President's Award for Teachers. They are a very small group but I believe they are world class and we have more of them than most countries. Even now I can think of one or two more teachers to support but too many teachers have stopped teaching.
Teachers' KPI require them to continue studying for Masters and PhD.
ReplyDeleteWhere got time to teach?
Besides.
It's really the private tutors that teach our students.
So school teachers don't really need to teach properly.
And Education Ministers don't really need to formulate good education policies.
There is no accountability in the education system.
It's all subsidized by the parents through private tuition.
So who really has a subsidy mentality?
The parents or the Education Minister?
What do you think?
