Indonesia 1, Singapore 0

I have been noticing bursts of creativity among our neighboring countries especially in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines. Good for them.

I am disappointed that we are not able to produce our own equivalent because we are so contrived, and top down driven. The MRT fiasco only served to reinforced this.

See article in Jakarta Globe
Surabaya. A group of policewomen took an unusual approach to crowd control at a May Day protest in Indonesia on Wednesday, breaking into a performance of “Gangnam Style” to keep demonstrators happy.
Thousands of protesters in the city of Surabaya in eastern Java cheered with excitement as around 80 female officers did the signature horseriding dance from South Korean rapper Psy’s global hit.....
Stick rigidly to our old winning formula and eventually our neighbors will pass us by. We are truly becoming old. Just look at how tired SQ is. Our national bird is also our canary in the coal mine.

  1. The thing is, when creativity is shown, people generally are punished for it.
    The govt punishes you

Your higher ups punishes you at work

Your peers punishes you for rocking the boat.

Your family punishes you for being different.

  2. Doing a copycat gangnam style on the streets is creative?

    Scientists are creative.
The invention of the search engine is creative.
The creation of the PC is creative.
The creation of the gangnam style dance is creative.
Heck, even crack cocaine is innovative as hell.

But a copycat dance? The keyword is copycat. Nope, not creative at all. I hope there are few Singaporeans engaged in such mindless imitation.

    3. And your point is?

I don't think that the crowd was going to burn the policewomen alive but even so, how does that make those policewoman any more creative? So saving your own skin is considered creativity?

    4. Why are both of you having this argument here? The wise person is the one who knows when to stop.

I am blogging for myself. I almost never respond to comments except requests for help. This is one of those rare exceptions.
