LTA pay to get feedback

My Facebook news feed was interrupted by LTA this morning because they paid for that right. Are they so disliked they had to use tax payers' money to reach out to us? I am setting this aside for now. There are more important things to attend to. There are many legitimate and reasonable reasons for paying to reach people. Many would too but they can't afford or afraid that the money would be wasted.

The first three comments/feedback to LTA caught my attention. Nothing new but you always want to hear it in the original.

  • Rex Tan Ppl who needed a transportation for their livelihood are being sucked into this shithole. Increase coe price and erp pricing plus more gantry doesnt seems to help much. Why? Its because govt is weeding out middle or lower class earners... its now those rich class who has no worries abt paying more and more. With all your world class transportation... it just failed. Morning train peak period frequency is sometimes at 4 to 5mins. And usually is a sardined can. U take bus. Prepare to be late. Take cab. Pay 30 daily as erp and jams count. So what are we supposed to do? We shd be asking LTA for an answer. We have paid so much to LTA. U PROVIDE US WITH THE OPTIONS. WE TELL U WHETHER WE APPROVE OR NOT. how about that?

  • Edmund Koh For taxi drivers, they are told not to worry about such increases, hence it will be bored by the commuters. On one hand, peoples are told to take public transport (taxis) instead of owning a car. But then they still have to bear paying ERP even though they don't own a car. Does this really made sense. So can we still trust all their preaching about peoples' caring.....

How long would it take for us to be tired of such complaints? I think a very long time or as long as the problems are not solved. It is the emotion rather than the content of the messages that LTA need to hear, which Lui Tuck Yew does not know how to respond except from the mind. He has to show commuters he understand and FEEL their pain but I know I am asking for the impossible. He and his colleagues haven't figured out how to ask people to be more patient.

Crowd sourcing solutions for the COE conundrum which I am sure the admin service is totally disdainful (they think so but have no guts to tell us we are stupid) will not work. Cherish every feedback opportunity because they are not limitless. It could be the road to cynicism and then all communication will break down. For some the talk is over because they will only talk to you with their votes. Are the ranks of such citizens growing? Angry enough, people will still go ahead to cut their nose to spite their face. Madness.

Meanwhile I believe good men and women are quietly joining the opposition parties. Their response to making the best of a deteriorating situation.

As expected the government and the PAP don't get it. It is obvious solutions to many of our problems cannot be got over night. We are not stupid enough not to know. All you need to do is to show and make it real enough that you are one of  or at least with us. In return people will offer patience.

In view of the arrogance of the admin service, this solicitation of feedback by LTA is just a money wasting show. Cheap and hollow politicking with the people. The latest MDA measures whilst the OSC was on going proved that. I was right to boycott the OSC. Much of it was for training political rookies.

We can tell that among the PAP stalwarts they have either lost their compass or insist on following the old one which more and more people are rejecting as the wealth and income gaps widen. The result is band aid measures everywhere. The people as asking for 'bread' so let's find them 'bread'. When people ask for 'bread' you show them how to grow 'food' for themselves. Problem is you have run out of ideas because you keep insisting on preserving your holy cows.

If you think transportation is a really knotty problem, property assets to fund retirement would be an unconquerable problem. Just watch when pay day comes.

Update: 2:55pm

The latest comment has helped me to recognize that this post is a tiny picture story of the larger and far more important picture I just posted minutes ago at http://blogging4myself.blogspot.sg/2013/06/latest-band-aid-msf-new-bidding-system.html

  1. If nothing else, this paying for feedback by the LTA, once again show ordinary citizens that the OSC is just a sounding board for them to test out the palatability of their excuses why they have to screw the citizens yet again for the good of the country.

But really, what feedback can we provide? We don't have the expertise to earn millions from the taxpayers nor do we have the dignities to talk to them. Perhaps an email to Motorsport City investor Peter Lim can provide the solution for a fairer vehicle ownership structure?

  2. I have sent at least 4 feedback to the relevant authorities on problems with station crowd movement/queue etc and other matters. What I had were automated email replies and no action taken to address those problems I hightlighted. There were no further replies to me, confirming to me that my feeback had been relegated to the trash bin. Do you expect LTA to take your feedback and suggestions seriously? I think it is just a smokescreen.

    1. I almost never respond to comments left here as I am blogging for myself. Anyway thanks to you and all for your comments since it caused me to update this post.

There are ways to get LTA to respond if you really want to put in the troublesome work. I have just posted the bigger reason why I think the govt don't really care about the feedback it is getting. See

  3. The LTA is not serious about solutions to the car ownership problems in Singapore. Why? Look at the words used - "how the COE scheme and car ownership framework should be refined", "tweak the COE system". There is no intention of coming up with an alternative and/or better system. Once again the intention is only to make minor adjustments.

It's like a car engine that has seen better days. Try ad-hoc repairs, patch up, polish...it sputters on a little longer everytime an adjustment is made. But sooner or later, not if but when, it will fail. Then what?

This is what frustrates me - they are not sincere. They want to be seen to be doing the right thing, asking for feeback when there is no lack of it in the first place, but are unwilling to bite the bullet and do things right!
