I am spoilt for choice on which screenshot to use. So many diatribes against the government for not issuing stop work order.
Actually the companies could on their own choose to stop work and bear the economic costs but not surprisingly it isn't happening except for consumer companies like fast food deliveries. I think they need it for their brand image. There are caring business owners and bosses but they are the minority.
Should we all pressure the government to issue stop work order by going down to Hong Lim Park in this haze? No, because that would be missing the plot.
What do you think the guys who conveniently refused to sell us sand were trying to do to us? They want to see our economy go down. Why should we oblige them? We must stand together and tough this out. This is not just about a greedy government only caring about $$$. It is actually a war of sorts. Why did I suggest in earlier posts that all options should be on the table and that we must invest in more leverage including the capabilities to target people Mossad style?
Singaporeans should grow up. I know many are grown up but not those who make a lot of noise on the Internet.
The Indonesians in Habibie did us a favor and burnt into our consciousness a hard truth no leader here could ever do: Little Red Dot.
Are we letting Agung WhyUDonno repeat that favor? No problem. We will have far fewer people behaving like children.
We must fight the giant Indonesia or any other if necessary at our own time and place and win. I am glad we are in the 21st century where size matter less and power and intelligence can be multiplied multiple times. I only hope our leaders have the spine and foresight to lead us but I am losing my patience at their F grade communication skills. They actually knew how to communicate but for the dinosaur age and not this thoroughly networked age. And they are such slow learners because they are so slow to unlearn. My rule of thumb is that they will not be able to learn faster than the MSM and that is not good enough.
Singaporeans should take the right lesson of this awful haze and get real to the realities of our neighborhood. And the PM should like his father boldly tell the nation what the hell all this is about. Far too many people don't get it.
Update: 3:25pm
Each time our frenemies make our lives difficult we must use it to come back stronger otherwise they will keep using the same strategy and make us weaker. If we do not limit our economic losses from the haze, they will have ideas about repeating this next year. Why should we be so stupid?
This are the moments to learn what it is to be Singaporean. To stand together in adversity, overcome great odds and triumph. This will be our story into the future. This lost its way government could help with fewer policies that divide rather than unite us. Mind the growing gaps. Our enemies watch these gaps with pleasure because they have time on their side. If we are stupid to do ourselves in, they can afterward walk in. Easy as pie. Tactics like burning the forests to give us haze are really optional. In fact it is just collateral benefit from their commercial corruption. Vivian B was naive to expect them to name the offending companies. Thank you Greenpeace for doing us a favor. If we fix them, Greenpeace will produce more names. Why not?
first world nation and how emergency preparedness can we be! I am sure they must have paid big bucks to some brillant consultants to plan and map things out for a good half decade in advance, do regular testcheck on plans - and yet we get the impression these highly paid "servants" of the nation look quite resigned to the fact that there is nothing much they can do - for a recurring event like the haze. what if a more severe crisis occur!! Scary!!!
ReplyDeletewhat do you think will happen if we had nuclear power plants in this country? or if these were built close enough for the fallout to each us? we're struggling just with train breakdowns...
ReplyDelete"This are the moments to learn what it is to be Singaporean. To stand together in adversity, overcome great odds and triumph."
ReplyDeletePlease lah.
We've heard this before.
Then after crisis is over?
Another million dollar bonus for them.
And peanuts for the rest of us.
You pay peanuts.
