Heng Swee Kiat to teachers: Take a break

I was aghast when I read early this morning the newly minted Education Minister advising teachers to take a break. I am sure he didn't mean it or he was just plain clueless the work pressure on many teachers courtesy of his predecessors. Ah yet another policy wonk who doesn't know how to be a good politician.

A more astute minister would have encourage them to find meaning and satisfaction in their work. It is one of those few occupations that is also include a calling, never mind few teachers view it that way. The few that do, are deeply appreciated and I have had the fortune to have met a few of them. Yes, more than one! Wonderful isn't it. And I am sure they are not taking a break. I just smsed one of them.

Tell them to take a break, might as well throw in Kit Kats for every teacher too. Choose one: A stupid minister or just an insensitive one. But this guy was one of the brains that helped to pull us out of the greatest recession in the last couple of years.

He has no heart, was told he was also a hard driver. Yet another minister that lives by measuring and counting? Remember Einstein's sagely advice against that or go back to work that does not involve people and relationships.

  1. Staff in the education ministry really take lots of breaks during their course of work.

Most don't need to be told to take breaks.
