God is Not a Christian

I surprise myself. This is the first time I need a blog entry to prepare for another one coming later. As I was preparing to write up my impression of "Love Wins" by Rob Bell, Amazon suggested this book on its page. Oh, what a provocative title and it resonates with me too.

I haven't read this book, but it isn't too difficult to make a good guess. I would have bought this title if Amazon would make it more affordable.

God is bigger than our increasingly narrow ideas of what a Christian is. God must always be bigger than our theology. As humans we cannot help having boxes if we are to understand and operate from. But God loves to tear down any box which we might construct. (Remember the walls of our boxes are made of bricks of pride) Through his prophets he had asked, "Do I lived in man made houses" - he was referring to the Jewish Temple. I supposed those guys thought they had God "captured". It is their God and nobody's else. They couldn't be more wrong and the signature story would be Peter visit with Cornelius household. We might be studying that next Sunday.

Think as God being big, being beyond. Once you are able to get there, he has just gone further. It isn't static. He cause us to grow and than immediately he is bigger than when we last found him. Haven't we noticed that was the progression of the barbarism of the Old Testament to the world changing Agape of the New Testament. God was gradually revealing himself and as patient, as fast as we are able to keep up with him. Love is patient. This love first introduced itself  in my life as a P5 boy.....

Desmond Tutu is among the more prominent ones of many he had chosen to show that God is bigger than Christianity. I repeat: As he was also larger than the Ark and the Temple that housed it.
