Dealing with China

"he also warned that China faces severe challenges at home and abroad" That is Hu Jintao understating China's problems which I feel dwarfs those of America's. It is an irony that far more people including the Americans are more optimistic about China's long term future than America's. In the end, it isn't what you know that mattered. It is what you believe.

If you have foresight, dealing with China is not impossible or injurious. Only one rule is necessary for your safety: don't get in her way. Historically she never has time for anything else except paying attention to endless problems.

On the other hand if you want to prosper with China, you cannot avoid danger. Good luck. Just don't stray beyond your circle of competence.

The challenge China posed for Singapore is not so much she that she is catching up with us but when she is very close and about to overtake us. That's the moment when our boat might capsize. If we can survive that transition, we should be alright. We would also end up with a very different relationship with them, and we can plot better not to get in their way.
