Govt didn't believe in more hospital beds
Ah, finally the government admitted through its health minister why there isn't enough hospital beds. They didn't believe in having enough! Of course they didn't have the courage to tell it simply but there is no other way to read what Gan Kim Yong had said and what Khaw Boon Wan had failed to do. Khaw was shrewd to volunteer to go to MND where he can succeed. In healthcare like transport you are set up to fail with the voters.
Beware of abstract nouns like healthcare model which you can only see in reports or as a powerpoint presentation. In other words it doesn't exist. Beds are tangible and not abstract.
The new healthcare model means you stay at home and don't come to hospital. Too bad if everyone is out working or in school. "You die your business", which of course is never MOH intention to be so callous but the inadvertent result of their hare brained thinking.
I told my friends that Singapore is not a full life cycle city like cities of other developed countries strive to be. It is especially inimical to those who are no old and economically not useful. It is kindest and most rewarding when you are a rain maker, i.e, the small elite high earning group. Any time you are not contributing economically or very economically promising you are neglected and dumped into the box of "You die your business". So every PR make their calculations and few want to be citizens. What for? If possible many Singaporeans also want to be PRs so that they can retire comfortably and cheaply somewhere else instead of being thrown into "you die your business" box.
It doesn't make any sense to me. You are over time alienating more and more voters and eventually they must kick the PAP out of government. What an idiot. Any time you don't have enough beds, your care model has failed. There is nothing to explain. How I wished the minister would accept responsibility otherwise he is useless, basically telling us to live with the problem.
Over the last few months I have tried to cut this government more slack but it is really difficult to support them the next time. Even if we are still doing alright by then, the trend is really bad and such trends will turn us into a Dystopia eventually.
Update Jan 21 6:00am
I woke up this morning wondering why I have hardened against the government? I realized Lim Siong Guan's book reminded how our standards are falling. It's like you don't notice how your children are rapidly becoming taller until the family meet old friends who haven't seen them for a while. The risk is we slowly get used to low standards here. We do so to cope. How can one be angry all the time? That's just unhealthy.
If we tolerate low standards we begin to call and accept them as high standards. Time passed and we become like others even as we keep qualifying and telling ourselves why we are better than others on our journey to also ran.
Update: Jan 21 8:30am
And Bertha Henson more in the loop on this matter I do gave a good reflection pointing to MOH negligence or incompetence.

looks like it is worst being a citizen of this red dot than being a employee of any xyz company which hires and fires and dumps its employee when it has no more use of the latter. sad - the end is nigh !
