SDP proposal is good enough for a bad April's Fool. joke! How could they think up something like this? I think they are going to lose even more support than I expected.
No opposition party in Singapore would be stupid enough to accept such a proposal. This is totally unreal. They are deluded to think up such suggestions!
Better get into damage control mode and quickly protest that they have been misunderstood and misquoted.
Update: 10:10pm
I think I know how they come up with this crazy proposal. SDP has been thinking far too highly of their alternative policies which I think most of us aren't interested. They are putting the cart before the horse. Achieve credibility first then share your plans. In this sense the other alternative parties are far smarter.
SDP is suffering a from heavy delusion.

Just came from reading Tessa Wong's article in Singapolitics, 'SDP's "win-win-win" strategy is "lose-lose"'
I think the least unwise action for the SDP now is to withdraw from contesting in this by elections. I don't think you want to see WP contesting in the constituencies SDP was fighting for in the last GE when the next one comes along. You must read the people sentiment better or else you don't even qualify to play. The Constitution does not stop you at the gates but what if you enter the fray and lose your deposit? In that scenario, SDP will lose all credibility for the next GE. Now the watch word for them is limiting damage.
There is only one way to successfully compete against the WP. Successfully show the voters that you care for them and Singapore more than WP is and able to. That's how it is successfully putting pressure on the PAP.
You hit the nail on the head on this one.
ReplyDeleteSDP is essentially saying : I'm good at making speeches, I'm good at dreaming up ideas .. but help .. I can't govern. So you govern, I make the speeches, OK?
Well, we've been bemoaning the lack of creativity in this country. This is quite a creative suggestion actually.
ReplyDeleteSadly, Chee has been very badly tarred by the MSM. Some bloggers realise this and believe SDP should stand:

One might call it delusion, or one might see it creative.
ReplyDeleteIn this desperate time where SGP needs bold ideas and change (just look at the wanton stage, democratically and politically we are in..) - I say it is probably worth a shot. But people who are used to the same-old- same-old arrangements and expectations ie. rules of the game set out and played by PAP for the last 5 decades, are probably still stuck in their mindset of how it 'should' or 'ought' to be played. If Iceland had followed America's example of bailing out the banisters and govt, they would not have been able to turn around so quickly today. Instead, they bail out its citizens. As we move into the new era of the Age of Aquarius, the era of TEDex and dearth of great ideas and creativity in SG, is time we try to be open minded about new approaches/new ideas. Looked at from this point of view, it is not that audacious at all.
Having said that, I doubt WP will bite, and constitutionally, not even sure it is workable?!
