I represented my JC in the Pre-U Seminar a very long time ago. We also had the Ending Dance Party then, but not as energetic as this one. We had to learn various dance steps including the Foxtrot! How boring and also difficult.
I found this YouTube clip from this guy who had some nasty things to say about DPM Teo. If these kids had gotten Lee Kuan Yew, he would have thrown down the gauntlet at them and give them an unforgettable life lesson. I think the DPM is a competent technocrat but a lousy politician.
All politicians lie. At best we can only expect them to have honorable motives, which is what Lee Kuan Yew is prepared to defend when you pushed him against the wall. If you want to be a leader who never lied to the people, don't be a politician. I imagine Jesus Christ never was a political leader because that was impossible even stupid. The way of the Cross, the washing of your followers' feet, the polar opposite of where political leaders occupy. Go study the life of Abraham Lincoln, whose epithet is honest Abe and you will see how deceptive he was. Let's not kid ourselves, a lot of us cannot handle the truth and do not know how to respond to the truth correctly. Democracy is a gamble, and act of faith and we adopt it because anything else is worse. I want to insert here one of my favorite snippet from, "A Few Good Men", Jack Nicholson imitable performance, "You Can't Handle the Truth".
The DPM was kind, too kind. He could have given it to you much better tiger cub. Take your time, but grow up. I read a little of his blog and his uncivilized language does not invite respect or food for thought.
Give the man some credit for refusing to shoe polish. May be he can learn to be more savvy like Khaw Boon Wan, which by and large crafted very good answers in the ST today. Of course I don't agree with Khaw that the Hougang elections was abut local issues, but observe how he cleverly step around it and lead you away from it toward the pertinent issues. That was clever.
It was a local election and it's over. So let's get back to business. We have many things to address. The world is in a state of flux, we're bound to have many crises, big and small, coming our way over the next few years.
Sometimes I think Singaporeans become too focused on the domestic, forgetting about the larger world. Sometimes we forget... there's no reason for us to be so insulated. The world affects us in multiple ways, we must always be very mindful of what's happening and take challenges in our stride.
Synonyms for clever - cunning, sly.

ReplyDeleteYour point on Mr Khaw BW's comments,I do not quite agree with Mr Khaw that current housing, transport problems are all part of trade-off,but PAP has been the government since 1959 with more than 60% support, and it was PAP"s decision to have 6 million population,so was it their responsibility to take care of these problems for an expanded 6 million population?
ReplyDeleteIn Singapore,it is better to die in ignorance, than to die knowing the truth and yet doing nothing to change/improve the situation.
Thank you.
you have mistaken incompetence as kindness and arrogance as honorable motives. all politicians lie to some extent but in other countries they are checked and kept in check by strong multitude of media and opposition. Here the lies go unchecked and the people get fooled and hear only the PAP's version of their "truth".
