Excellent article even with a cursory reading. Hope to come back later and read it carefully. It is a very long article.
I like her conclusions:
1. The best garment is the garment of righteousness
2. Whenever you dress, be sure to cover your bosoms
3. Lengthen your garment
Can't agree more!
Wonderful article - now we know why fundamentalists will never able to win true converts? They are so bigotry and make their own rules. I highly respect the author for her objectivity and respect for what the Holy Quran actually speaks.
ReplyDeleteFor the current speaker of Singapore's parliament. The effective and unequivocal description of your job as speaker of parliament is SINGAPORE.
ReplyDeleteSINGAPORE, not Islam, Muslim and for the same reason, not Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Christian, etc., or whatever religion.
If you cannot dress in the normal SINGAPOREAN way, do the right thing and resign. I for one will not miss your absence and you will never have my vote for your stupidity to mix religion and politics.

David, what is the SINGAPOREAN way of dressing?? I used to wear singlet and pajama bottoms as I walked around when I was young and still do because I live in HDB. If I do that in a condo, I would be branded as someone lower than even the cleaner or gardener - accordingly to my friends who have "upgraded" themselves to live in line with the Jones. Do tell me what is the SINGAPOREAN way of dressing??
ReplyDeleteWhat we need to do in life is simple - respect others and don't judge. As long as we do not offend or impose on others, the world will not be a place where people are at war but rather at peace.
