Town Councils raising fees

I quote Hri Kumar Nair, the chairman of Bishan-Toa Payoh Town Council.

"It had delayed the increase for a s long as possible where expenses would exceed revenue"

I have my doubts. It is so easy for them to pass on the costs to us. I recall when I was living with my parents in Braddell View, we paid less than those living in HDB near equivalents. With the revelation of how misspending could arise from the recent NParks purchase of Brompton Bicycles, we must not take these leaders at their word. I would urge them to prove their case and with enough data for some of us to verify their claim.

It would be very interesting to see if Aljunied Town Council would also raise fees, and if they do are their rates better than the PAP managed ones.

Update: 9pm

Just read off AsiaOne that Aljunied Town Council will not be raising fees. Ok, the race is on to see if an Opposition ward can do better than the seven PAP wards.

  1. For many years now, Bishan-Toa Payoh TC has been paying their cleaning contractors VERY HIGH prices for their services when compared with other town councils. Is this town council very much cleaner than the other town councils? Residents should protest against this increase in service charges and demand for transparency in the way they award contracts to service providers.

  2. I stay at Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC. The standard of maintenance has been declining for the past 5 years. My lift lobbies are hardly clean at all. In the past they sweep and mop the lobbies. Now at best they sweep superficially and leave the floor stains as they are for days until we call the hotline for action.

Their contractors should be sacked long long ago; but somehow they are still around and collecting their sky high maintenance charges. There is an absolute lack of transparency. Wondering if there are skeletons in the town council's cupboard.

  3. It would be interesting to know whether any of those "sky-high" prices paid to the cleaning contractors at Toa Payoh-Bishan trickle down to the cleaners themselves. And if so, how much does?

Are the guys who are actually doing the work paid more than others elsewhere?

How is it that the town council guys have not noticed that the cleaning is not up to the mark? How is it no one is checking? Or is the checking also sloppy?

Did you ask whether if it is the town council getting themselves more money while cutting down money on contractors ? I more incline to believe this is the case since there is lack of transparency and accountability on the pap town council themselves. Isn't fund suppose to help citizens hedge against inflation, and how is it that in midst of inflation the PAP happily raise their fee ?

  5. Voters at Toa Payoh-Bishan don't care 2 hoots about S&C or they would have voted WKS out in GE2011, no?
