Comex: Got the Asus Memopad HD7

Bought the Asus Memopad HD7 for wifey today at Comex. The brochure price was $249 but they gave us a better deal when we added the $29 case. They billed us $220 for the HD7 :-)

The HD7 is being conditioned now - the typical 8 hours charging.

I hope weighing at 302g this is light and powerful enough for her purpose.

World's press ignores PM at G20

I heard over the radio again and aagin what the PM said at the G20 meeting. I suspect the rest of the world's media gave it scant attention. Tonight I made a quick check and sad to say my hunch was correct. That's the difference between very good and truly great.

Tell them what they don't know which they need to know and everyone will talk about it. But if you are only first class at keeping up, you are only a top student and not a path breaker, which is very hard work....that's why we work the longest hours.

My Galaxy S3 vs the Powershot S110

This is not a technical or professional comparison between the Galaxy S3 and the Powershot S110. The latter is a superior image capture device any time. However for my practical purpose I have often found my S3 is good enough or for that matter if I need a zoom lens, there is no need to invest beyond the typical 1/2.3 to the S110 1/1.7. By the way the S3 sensor is only 1/3.2.

Should have given both the same white balance :-(

A DSLR would be nice to have but most times it is an over kill for me. Portability, convenience and speed would be far more important.

Yesterday Deluge

What a deluge yesterday. Good thing we decided to wait for the rain to get lighter before leaving for the office. Just as well I was too busy to blog yesterday too. I wanted to have those students from Fairfield Methodist in my blog but I think this picture above tell the story more comprehensively.

Incredible that the an expressway, in this instance the AYE was flooded. Vivian Balakrishnan the minister of hard luck was quick to announce that this was unacceptable. He left good luck behind for Chan Chun Sing and Lawerence Wong.

Samsung Gear or just overloaded watch

This watch tries to do too much and ended up not doing anything well. So they had beaten Apple to the market with this one, but what's the use? To me Samsung only knows how to get it right after it has seen how Apple did it. I got this from engadget.com


Why duplicate or compete with the smart phone when the watch is clearly not smarter than the phone? The two devices should be producing one plus one is more than two. Perhaps momentum will offer the juggernaut of Samsung Mobile some sales but I think the smarter decision is to pass on this pricey buying opportunity.

SG lesson: Smart for Nokia; less for Microsoft

This event made the headlines yesterday across all media channels. I prefer the report by CNet.

Nokia survives to fight another day by going back to its roots. Its history and heritage is its strength. Putting it another way, Nokia sold of a very big part of itself because its value was declining rapidly. They sold it to Microsoft which in many investors view, and I agree, bought something bad - its shares fell 5%

Microsoft is no longer a leader to be reckoned with. Leadership begins in the mind and character. They are mindless about the future and so can only play follow the leader if they are ordinary but play good catch up if they are very good.

In many ways Singapore had become like Microsoft with SQ as the canary in the coalmine. We mostly play catch up, always at risk of buying less than sterling assets and are self deceived with very few pockets of greatness e.g., water technology. Overall we are very good but not great and we do need to be great to secure our children's future like our parents had ours.

Check: Will Singapore Inc, keep buying Nokias? Mistaking Win-Lose for WIN-win. It must be WIN-WIN or the win has a way of becoming a lose which time will deliver a clear verdict.

A Thank You Card

We had heard she had a stroke but we have never met her in person because she lives in Indianapolis.

The way she had printed her words, we could finally get a better idea how she is living with the consequence of the stroke.

Today we receive a Thank You card from her and her groom. We are so happy she got married! Her parents were not hopeful at all. The years of waiting were worth it.
