Looking for Lunch along Tanjong Katong

Lovely weather today. Wifey and I took a walk along Tanjong Katong Rd exploring the various eateries. We decided on a simple meal at Chun Kee. The portions weren't large but we are small eaters.

Verdict: Good enough to bring the family here for dinner.

St Margaret botak girls must wear wigs

I was wondering if I should hold back and let Breakfast Network put out their article first. They often write how I feel about issues. Saves me the time and effort.

At my girl's JC, her classmate did the same and the school applauded her during assembly. She was presented as a role model. They also had rules about girls' hairdo but there was no problem. Until she regains her former crown of glory her baldness was testimony to a greater cause.

When my girls moved from primary to secondary school I decided they would not go to a Christian school. Right decision! This is my shorthand to say I am not surprised that something like this has happened at St. Margaret. Mainstream Christianity and their schools have decided they have satisfactorily answered Jesus question, "Who do you think I am?" They have forgotten that every once in a while he will ask us the same question again. They knew who he was but have forgotten, and needed to be asked again.

Today the Roman Catholics are fortunate to have Pope Francis. He said about the gays, "Who am I to judge?" Exactly!

Personally I am against homosexuality but all the same I appreciate Alex Au's latest post which I read yesterday. Increasingly I have come to realize that if we pick up stones and throw them at the gays, we cannot blame others for picking up boulders to hurl them at us! We have no legitimacy to judge them.

The principal has forgotten why the rules were there and what purpose they served. It is always the same outcome; over time people lost the raison d'etre and the rules become the purpose - a stick in the mud. Rules should bring us freedom and life, liberates us from lawlessness; allow us to grow and reach new heights. The principal stuck in past religious dogma has lost her way. The rules a means to freedom have become a cage instead.

What unAuthentic Family Pledge


I was completely uninterested in this Family Pledge thingy until the Breakfast Network published an article on it. I read BN because their articles are short, gets to the point quickly in a breezy style. Folks like them and others will eventually show the MSM how to do it better or even right.

But all that isn't good enough. I don't want all these superficiality and dressing up. Give me authenticity. This is what I often get when I get the chance to hear PN Balji on radio (he is not from the BN). The problem with MSM is that except for a few writers, they love crap, apple polishing and the superficial official line - Just like this 'The Family Pledge', which  BN's Alvin Pang had torn apart.

The age of do as we are told is over. Now you have to sell the reasons for every command, in fact it can no longer be commanded.

The Family Pledge as Alvin Pang rightly pointed out must be based on love. If that is absent its observance is at best hypocritical and definitely only for display to outsiders only. I have seen couples who would use daggers on each other in private but are model spouses in the company of friends and colleagues. That's the family pledge eh?

For a sometime already we have moved from the age of Good Colors to True Colors. Cyndi Lauper even had a hit song with that theme. Better to set aside this pledge and have a true color one if you want to it to last, to grow. We will just forget this one quickly, a waste of time. Some like me if not for BN, wouldn't even bother. We already know it is just one more of the usual boring unauthentic same.

New Kindle Paperwhite Case

Ordered a new case for my Kindle Paperwhite last week and it was speedily delivered yesterday. Unlike the previous one, this one snapped into the case perfectly. The previous one was off spec and I had to force it in. Eventually the case could not withstand the stress and fault lines turned into real cracks and broken pieces.

Ex MP charged with Drink Driving

We all hate drink driving. Lucky for him he didn't kill anyone in a road accident because of his recklessness.

Behind this brief news there is another story. A promising young President's Scholar sent to run the Suzhou Industrial Park and whilst there picked up the drinking habit. The bottle is the bane of many. He has to learn to stay away from the bottle. Hasn't it mess up his life enough?

I am angry with him for drink driving but I am also sorry for him at the same time.
