First visit to Satay Club at Gardens by the Bay.
Most of the stalls aren't operating yet. The ST claimed there are about 10 open but that is only if you also include these tiny satay boxes.
First time we tried Huat Huat chicken wings. It was excellent. Just a couple of stalls away you can get chicken rice. Business was really poor and I kinda of feel sorry for them. The ones doing brisk business were Huat Huat, Drinks, Satay and the BBQ Seafood.
There is also a tiny convenience stall manned by an Indian - a familiar look. Only half his shelves were stocked. I wonder why.
To track some personally noteworthy events, observations and thoughts, letting them age and savor/regret them again a long time later.

Ps Khong ambushed ESM Goh on LGBT
First noticed this issue when Ravi reposted it which led me to Ps Khong little spiel in front of ESM Goh. Then another pastor Miak Siew with a different view weighed in. Who is right? I think the question is too academic when divorced from its context. Is eating a cadaver to stay alive until rescue arrives abhorrent cannibalism?
What happen to S377A is not decided by the churches, mosques or temples. Parliament will decide and must have enough support from the electorate before it would be repealed.
Look around, the proponents for repealing S377A is gaining impetus. Anti-LBGT groups are on the defensive. You can guess given time what the outcome would be.
To me Ps Khong missed the elephant in the room because he had missed bad marriages and dysfunctional families. Adultery and broken marriages constitute a greater threat than what he had listed. I am sure after you have successfully attended to the elephant you will be ready and clearer with what to do about S377A. If the churches had been more successful at fostering strong families I wonder if there would even be a S377A issue. Likewise if Christians had always been more Christ like would there be the evil Crusades?
So regardless of which camp you belong, don't tell me what the Bible say until you live it. You will find that your mind will be transformed and you will have some wonderfully positive surprises like Jesus long ago also caught us unaware.

M1 incredible fiasco
Fortunately we are not with M1 but another telco which we find no reason to be happy with. All the telcos in Singapore suck. I am only blogging about M1 latest troubles because this is an epic failure that will be much more than a footnote in our history.
Standards are really falling in Singapore. I don't have data but I have that nagging feeling that the pace is accelerating and the blow ups are getting bigger.
It would really be sad to see this blog filled with so many such stories. I am still pretty upset with how CPIB conduct investigations and how can you forget what happened to the the NEL recently. They were so clueless to be bitten with the same fault a second time. Doesn't this call for some heads to roll? I think it should happen at M1 this time too. Just hours ago I read in WSJ and NYT that they are axing Rio Tinto's boss for the $14b write down the company had to take. Now that is some accountability.

Tissue Paper with a story
I am delighted to come across this always smiling chap pushing himself in his wheelchair today. I have been on the look out for him for months. So when I saw him today I gave him a big one for a packet of tissues. Bigger than what I had given him for each of the last four packets.
I will remember for a long time, put that for a lifetime, the sight of him barreling down the three lane busy street facing the traffic in a wheelchair - hand pushed, no electric motor. I was driving when I spotted him. Quite dangerous but he also wore the most determined look.
It is a little early but in my heart I wish him Happy Chinese New Year.
Update: May 30 1:40pm
Guess what? Surprise of surprises! I bumped into the guy who was supposedly on a wheelchair and he could walk as well as anyone! So I have been conned.
I had stopped supporting him since February or March this year when I spotted him smoking.
I must admit he put a really good act. He has been quite successful.

Antifragile: Quite an experience
Most books you just read and learn something but Antifragile is better described as an experience.
You can download Nassim Taleb's, "Antifragile" from our National Library Overdrive subscription or buy your ebook from Amazon. I have both.
Just finished reading earlier today.
The pic show the cutest page in the book. His latest book is much easier to follow than 'The Black Swan'. I haven't gotten around to "Fooled by Randomness" and "The Bed of Procrustes"
I had many labels for the author as I moved along the book but near the end I decided the most apt and unlikely to see him described thus: Prophet.
As I got to the final chapter I could already seamlessly connect the ideas of fragility and antifragility with the cornerstone ideas of the Bible. Of course it was helpful that Taleb often referred to the Hammurabi code.
A thought that rang continuously in my mind as I read was Singapore is FRAGILE. Had Taleb chosen Singapore as an example in this book, I am sure it wouldn't be very flattering. He doesn't see eye to eye with most economists (he calls them charlatans) and he completely disagrees with Thomas Friedman who is a great fan of our government.
Yes, like the stereotype biblical prophet, Taleb offends and have far fewer friends than any with his considerable intellectual footprint.

Losing confidence in CPIB
Reading this, I would dearly love to see Teng Khee Fatt sacked, disciplined and charged, i.e, I am hoping there is something in our laws we can use against him. Look at this methods. This oaf is a bully and remorseless abuser of state power invested in his position. This organization borrows the PM's power. I hope he will do the right thing and clean up their idiotic acts.
Of course my patience is very thin when I consider what they (in this instance ISD) had put our political detainees through and also Cecilia Sue cum Ng Boon Gay.
If you haven't got a sufficient case, you get one. Not by using such tactics. And if the law is inadequate, for god's sake the Law Minister please see to it and get it done via Parliament or we will never grow into a civilized and gracious society.
How CPIB conducts investigation and interrogates people is destroying confidence I and presumably many among the public have in them. Smacks of Chinese style justice. Fortunately we have our unChinese courts to open the cans of worms.
Update: 8:35pm
Some response from social media. So many share my sentiments. There should be more later.

How could he be so sloppy? Incredible! And perhaps fishy too.

- Gregory Tan Hey...it's a new dept...CPIB-ANTIVICE. All IOs r talents selected wif saint-like morality & infallible characters.
- Zant Chong This is serious as if proven true, it could cause doubt on investigator and cases handled by him.
- Mingchuan Mervyn Xie Why do people immediately point the finger at CPIB? What makes her more credible?
- Gabriel Tham hohoho...this sex trial is getting really interesting....CPIB inducing corruption? hehehe
- Patrick Sim I believe the ladies involved in both the SCDF and CNB cases are "protected" under such basis.
- Tan Kok Tim Not an indecent S$1m proposal or a gift to give away one's purity on the couch, isn't it?
- Tat Tong not pointing fingers at anyone, but CPIB does seem to be grasping at straws to make a case in this instance. Also notice that Teng has not refuted her recollection of statements from him, including the ludicrous premise that "a girl cannot buy gifts for a man".
- Yeo Seng Leng I won't either take Ko the guy in question or even CPIB seriously for this case . The whole case just looks like a courtroom drama .
- Rezal Junior I have no doubt her statements are 100% true.. In my mind thats exactly how corrupt the system is here.. I seriously think they don't care whether you're guilty or not.. No morality of any sort.. Just as long as their charges go true and their numbers are up.. Too bad for the girl though.. She already sign statement..
- Errol G Pereira It means that if you're the average Joe or Jane and they're out to get you, you're screwed
- Huang Jingwen Every corrupt case, be it NBG case or her case, seems that CPIB is the guilty party. Can we have Interpol to conduct an investigation on CPIB??
- Tan Kok Tim Didn't the professor teach them how to handle oneself or on behalf of clients under pressure when being fiercely interrogated by strong-armed guys? If this is not in the textbooks, the uni should look into it and upgrade their teaching materials.
- Leon Chow I am fine with the interrogation style but to twist the facts is too much for me to swallow. It is deliberately tempering with justice. This is dangerous.
- Guo Xiongwei Idk how any dismissal of the corruption charges makes her innocent. She DID have sex with her professor & bought him gifts/dinner while they were in a situation no favors were supposed to be exchanged.
- Harveen Narulla I think that qualifies as an inducement. Sigh. CPIB - no longer the credible force it used to be.
On another note - would this qualify as corruption too - the CPIB officer offering a favour in his official capacity to the accused in exchange for something he should not rightly have gotten (the admission). What do you think? - Veronica Chang Miss KO read law rite, she should kwn very clearly wat to say when giving statments !!!!!!!
- Ken Chong think Tey can check on her results and find out her "motive" for better grades. Shes need the grades for scholarship or to get into a top law firms ? dun think she need a better grade to pass right.
- Charles Chia Wah. Our PM like very busy leh. Is he going to issue another statement to request to do an internal review of cpib this time.
