South China Sea: Playing with the big boys now

Xi Jinping, you have underestimated US resolve and now you must realize you are playing with the big boys now. How are you going to respond to just US naval posturing? You can't but the US will help you save face as long as you do nothing when the UN courts in the Hague deliver their verdict which would likely not favor Chinese unreasonable interests.

You should have listened to Deng and bide your time but you were too impatient and now you have alerted the Eagle. Make love today whilst each side is making preparations for an eventual divorce but I am hoping for till death do us part like it happened to the Soviets.

  1. Not an expert on this topic , but I am sure the cccp is well aware of the usefulness of SCS. Whatever position taken by cccp on this matter to me is a sign of weakness.cccp needs legitimacy and this is how it is gaining it by playing the nationalist cards. But to be honest the real firework could come from the east china sea instead

    1. I am not an expert too. No need to be when I am blogging for myself :-)

One way to look at this is whoever controls the South China Sea controls Japan and Korea until the Arctic shipping route is open. People take for granted the present arrangement because America guarantee the security of Japan and South Korea by being the policeman of the South China Sea. South Korea and Japan will never tolerate China taking over from the Americans. Also how would it serve Indian interests as well? Beyond the issues of Pakistan and China to their north, I don't think they relish the prospect of a Chinese navy that can sail into the Indian ocean at will.

Every Asian state is paranoid about being encircled. China also deems her security need differently as she becomes more powerful. She forgets that it is more in her interest to let America patrol the South China Sea and she focuses on economic growth because the Americans have no interest to do the Chinese in or it would not have helped China developed so quickly. Kill your enemy as a baby, why wait for it to become grown up and strong. Unfortunately the Chinese long term intentions are not so peaceful. The Achilles heel of the Chinese is their impatience. They are not ready to engage America successfully in almost every sphere that mattered and least of all militarily.

  3. The only wise thing about the two comments is to admit that you are not experts. How can bananas understand what is happening to China?
