US Soft Power: China please learn

This isn't the first time the US has stood with us through our trying moments. The last time they lowered their flag to half-staff when LKY passed away.

My point? China ought to observe and learn. You want to earn respect and perhaps love to be a world power? The Americans for all their short comings have shown the way.

  1. How did Singaporeans reacted to the sinking of that Chinese vessel on the Yangtse River? More than 400 lives lost.

    Zero; zilch; nol; tidak ada; eelaek; mai mee; ma shi ba bu;

    Hoo Hess Hey is just trying to lick some Singaporeans' arse?

    Cheers,

    1. Some of us quietly and privately grieved over the massive loss of lives from that capsized ferry. To me the response to the Sabah quake and that was different because 1. they are Singaporeans and 2. they were mostly children. In the same way we mourn Nigel and Donavan Yap in 2013....

  2. I am 68 years old and pre Independence Sg had a similar tragedy amongst school children who drank contaminated barley water more than 50 years ago. One of my sister's classmate lost all her siblings and more families in the Queenstown area appeared to be affected. You can read the details here:http://rememberingsingapore.blogspot.sg/2013/11/barley-deaths.html

    The incident happened at the start of the school holidays in September and most households cook barley water to "cool down" active children.

    I still grieved over this incident and to be sure, I felt deeply for the loss of those children at the cusp of their teenage years suddenly gone while on an adventure trip.

    Foreign missions in Sg can half mast their flags but I am not impressed nor bothered.

    Cheers,

    1. That was long ago, my parents were late teenagers then and I wasn't even born. That was tragic but the story also tell me how attitudes have changed. Lives especially young ones are valued far more highly now than then.

      As for the Americans you can also see it skeptically or even cynically. To me they are always double minded. They try to live their ideals but also often compromise them. So sometimes they meant well and other times they do not. Will have to evaluate them case by case.
