Thailand: A stupid general seized power

What an impatient military chief Gen Prayuth is. He could only bear with the politicians for two days and then he seized power. How is he going to solve Thailand's problems? I don't think he has the wisdom or power to do so. Soldiers obey orders but not civilians.

If not for the institution of the monarchy, Thailand could easily go the way of the Egyptians because generals rarely could resist the temptation of power.

If Gen Prayuth turn out to be a stupid fellow with no subtlety or diplomatic skills, he would plunge Thailand into new depths. Let's see how in the next few days he is able to shore up confidence. Does he know which questions the public and foreign investors need answers to without even hearing them first?

He should just have refused to let the feuding politicians leave the table until they are able to find common ground and compromise. Instead he just blew it quickly. That's why I think he is not smart at all.

Update: 10:30 pm

Yet another stupid move. The Thai army conducting themselves like conquerors eh? Ordering the PM and his ministers to report to a military compound.

Even if the politicians are rotten, the office must be respected. If you demean it, you destroy it. Such behavior show the Thai armed forces have no respect for democracy or harbor any hope for it. If you disdain both sides of the political spectrum, you are spiting the Thai people. It is a matter of time the insult will be returned. Just watch.

Update: May 23: 9:35am

I am completely clueless about Gen Prayuth. So this brief in ST about him was useful and also serves to reinforce the little I thought of the man.

Update: May 23 2:25pm

Just as I feared, he can't resist the aphrodisiac of power, he has consumed it.

So how is he going to run the place? He would act like it is one giant army camp eh? But the people are anything but orders obeying soldiers. Big trouble brewing. People should avoid Thailand.

How long does he want to be PM? He is not going to give it up willingly and over time the economy will suffer (already is) and all sorts of troubles will mount.

Our part of the world is full of foolish generals.
