Singtel Fire Incredible Explanation

No more than 20% of what I wanted to blog about eventually made their way here. It's a trade off. Blogging like photo taking was always for the long term. I didn't want to put in the effort to write this but a Whatsapp message from an old friend has made it convenient.

A good place to read Charlie Munger's wisdom on incentives here. I think Temasek Holdings should bear this in mind or we will have many Black Swans in their portfolio!

  1. Something smells.

A scheduled maintenance require the shutting down/over writing of automatic fire extinguishing capabilities and action and the standard choice of telecommunications exchanges involve the total flooding of inert gases such as carbon dioxide into the chamber.

Personnel are normally registered, hand searched for inflammable items including shoes, matches, lighters, etc., before these are cleared to proceed to the next stage.

The media mentioned a blow torch and it is natural to assume some sort of hot work was planned and it will be interesting to find out if the chamber had been vented sufficiently and made absolutely safe before any matches/lighters were used.

Telecommunications exchanges are important key nodes of Singapore's IT system and any unauthorized tampering of the arrays of exchange equipment will compromise all of us.

For example, bookies, hackers, and some foreign agencies and individuals will be ecstatic if illegal modifications succeeded.
