Protests: Egypt today; Hong Kong tomorrow?

17 million Egyptians marching and protesting to bring down President Morsi. This photo by AFP was taken on June 30 outside the Presidential Palace. So many pictures to choose from but I only want to use one.

Its scale and size is going to capture the world's rapt attention. If they succeed at taking Morsi down, there could be copycats elsewhere. Perhaps at some point the people of Hong Kong could get so angry that practically the whole population will march. What can the PLA do then? There is not even enough space for them to drive the people back into their homes. Beijing must be worrying already. They had squandered so many opportunities to run Hong Kong better. The asking price is now beyond what Beijing could afford. As if the Chinese have nothing else to worry about. They have the most difficult jobs in the world.

Update: July 4, 7:20am

Just heard over the radio that the Egyptian military has removed President Morsi. Some senior members of the Muslim Brotherhood have been arrested and a few people were killed in the confrontation between them and the security forces.

The armed forces are with the protesters. That would not be the case if something akin comes to pass in HK. The Police might be with the people though.
