Haze: SG vs MY response

Click on pic to read story.

If we complain that our government have not responded well to the haze crisis just take a look at how incompetent the Malaysian side is.

If Malaysia have our government they would be terra-form into something amazing, but for the hard realities facing Singapore we must be careful that we are just best in class among failures almost every where.

Malaysia less developed economy and lower population densities face a less dire challenge than our more developed and service based economy congested into a small place. We have much more to lose, after all we have come much further.

Malaysia appears to be willing to live with a horrible neighbor in Indonesia. If so, they don't deserve better. We will not accept this.

I don't know what's the matter with Indonesia but I in quick check I noticed that the coordinating minister wasn't this shameless Ah-gong WhyUdonno back in 2005 when they accepted an aircraft from us to help control the fire. Previously he was the parliamentary speaker, the body that refused to ratify the accords the government already signed.

Derwin Pereira contributed a very insightful and educational piece to the ST on how Indonesia's leaders think and conduct themselves. If that is accurate, they are prone to self sabotage. They will not likely succeed in becoming a regional power but the consequence to that is that we will have a disunited ASEAN and a hard time dealing with external powers meddling into our affairs to advance their interests.

Update: June 23, 4:00pm

I don't know what state of emergency over there means but a couple of comments from this news break at Facebook is revealing in view of the 'likes' they received.

I like and support what Fyona commented. We are so fortunate that we have the resources and gave ourselves aircon etc., even the management to bring N95s to the poorer and old people even before those with money could get theirs. For once we put them first.

The scoffer and some of his kind left such comments for me from time to time too attracted 20 'likes'. He got a well deserved scolding from Jun Hao.

  1. Come on. Find out who are the reporters before commenting. This ST report is clearly written in such manner to deflect criticisms on the PAP government. Dun be fooled.

  2. What makes you think that what ST reports about Malaysia's response is an accurate yardstick of "effective" or "ineffective" response? And how is using or not using loud words against a bigger neighbor an indicator of effective or ineffective response? In cases like this, what happens behind the scene is more important than what's postured publicly. And why blame M'sia for the "ineffective" response? After all, its just Johor. KL, Penang etc are still OK. Its like only Jurong is affected while rest of Singapore is fine.

  3. Continue reading the "right things" in our MSM and you will soon realise how daft you were not to believe that the MIWs are holier than god.
