A Christmas Song: Mary Did You Know?

Received as an email from my friend in Bangkok. I have this playing in the car but this YouTube version is very well done. I am sure many more beside Katty Mattea feel the same about this Christmas song.

Jesus saves but we forget that the Gospel is brutal. Someone was crucified like a criminal. This softies Santa Claus image of him giving you a good, healthy and prosperous life is also from him but reserved only for his spoilt kids. If you want to grow up and lived his passion, that will be brutal. In some places you will walk with him. Elsewhere you are asked to stand like forever patiently waiting for the right moment. Meanwhile all around everything is going wrong. You will be misunderstood and to encourage you there had and continue to be many past examples added after Hebrews was written. You are welcome to share the shit he had gotten before and it will be wondrously good. See, this previous sentence is bound to be misunderstood just as they also didn't get Martin Luther King at first. We are not masochists.

I once wrote this to someone I had to reconnect with briefly. She never got it and afterward I got plenty of trouble.

"The way of the Cross is a magnificent obsession with a heavenly pearl besides which all things in life has no value" The late John White in the Cost of Commitment.
