Positive Psychology

Just discovered from Barbara Ehrenreich, "Bright-Sided" that Positive Psychology is sunk. Prof Seligman, one of its founders has admitted as much.

Mumbai Skywalks

The streets of Mumbai are so full of people that they practically cannot move. Up goes these sky walks to ease the congestion below. I wonder which other cities will follow its example. I bet it is going to be another Indian city.

Maxwell's Demon

Too difficult for my fifteen year old girl to grasp. In fact, she had probably glossed over it. So this is the limit for now. Wonder if I explain it to her, she would understand. The ingeniuty of how this conundrum is finally resolved is even harder to understand.

Complexity and Chaos Science

Just updated myself of its progress to date. I am not optimistic at all with the paths those guys are treading. There is nothing I could borrow from them to use in NaviMap. To think that it was so much more promsing ten or fifteen years ago.

More religious and less spiritual

I read with dismay the quarrel over the use of the world "Allah" in Malaysia. But this is one the last of a long series of events. People, especially Muslims are becoming more religious and wonder this is accompanied by more spirituality and morality.

The way are fighting over words, hoy books, religious practices and symbols make me doubt ther spirituality and morality are anywhere equal to their religiosity.

Some American Christian preachers are praying for their President to die. They aren't oppressed like some from the Muslim quarter, otherwise I think we are seeing the birth of the Christian terrorist already.

Religion looks like it has taken a terrible bend, and we are all losers. Governments can fight the security wars but are powerless with the wars of ideology or theology. Peace loving theologians seem so powerless to arrest these trends. I wonder if some are not event decamping to the radically intolerant side.

Burj Dubai again

Wifey received this in the email this morning because she had been among the executives ranks of Dubai Inc.

Burj Dubai

Quoting the TimesOnline, Jan 2 2010

"Dubai has used the opening of the Burj as an opportunity to shrug off the bad news. The exact height of the building remains a closely guarded secret until Monday, but the tower is visible from 100km (60 miles) away."

And it dawn on me that it would be politically tricky for Singapore to ever build a very tall tower because it will be an eye sore to the Malaysians.

Gold

Gold is not a hedge against inflation. It is insurance against existing securities. It can only be safely bought against fear. It is dangerous to hold when loved.
